DREAMS ON A FRONTIER

DREAMS ON A FRONTIER
Look to where the shadows turn blue
That’s where you will find us
Somewhere between a dream and a fear

In homage to Joseph Conrad’s statement: ‘Life is just that, a dream and a fear’, Dreams on a Frontier takes place in various places around the Arctic wilderness on the island of Svalbard. The tableaux vivant settings show constructed narratives to romanticize human pursuits with a tangible wilderness in the background. This suggests that there is an abstract reality present between our inner world in relation to our outer world. It attempts to portray the tension between our dreams and our fears through emotional resonance. We grapple with our own ideas about reality and fantasy, and often suffer disengagement and disillusion in order to perpetuate our own fantasies into reality. The moth present in the images is a symbol of emotional resonance in my works and the attempt to override reason in favor of emotion.
